Business loan preparation will speed up the process and greatly improve your chances of approval!

Applying for a Small Business Loan

When women have business ideas, plans, and desires in place, the anticipation of moving forward in owning and operating a small business is extremely exciting. Only one thing can hold you back -  financing, funding, money. Working with a lender and applying for a small business loan can be easy or difficult, depending on how much preparation you've put into the loan application process. Your loan package application should be extremely organized and presented in a professional manner. Don't omit any details, and be upfront and honest about your credit history, even if you don't have an excellent credit rating.

The loan institution lender will ask for a variety of items when applying for a small business loan. Be completely prepared with:

1. Your Business Plan, Marketing Plan, and Financial Statements
2. Provide the loan officer with your cash flow projections to show a constant flow of income to help repay your loan.
3. Include your personal credit records and current tax returns for the last 3 years.
4. Explain in detail the purpose of your business loan and what you want the money for.
5. Describe what you have to offer as collateral. This can include equipment, tangible items, property, savings, etc.
6. If you are a business startup, then you may need a co-signer in today's economy.
7. Seek out other women who have received a business loan and ask them if you can review their business plan.
Dress for APPROVAL. Don't show up at your meeting in jeans and a sweatshirt when applying for a small business loan. Don't worry if you've forgotten anything, and don't get flustered. If your loan officer needs aditional information offer to drop off or fax the requested information as soon as you leave the meeting. Try to think of any additional information that could possibly play a role in getting your loan approved for your business.

If your business loan is not approved, don't become upset. As a matter of fact, you could even explain that not getting the loan will not deter you from your goal. You believe in your business and will take the necessary steps to get funding for it. Sometimes this show of confidence can be an asset to getting that loan.

Many small businesses are declined on small business loans. Look into alternative loan sources if you have been refused, and don't give up. If bad credit is an issue check out: What if You Have Bad Credit?
